Who needs an OT driving assessment?

You have a disability, injury or medical condition that is impacting your driving. 

  • You have received a letter from Transport for NSW (RMS/RTA) requesting one. 
  • Your GP or specialist has recommended you undergo an OT driving assessment.
  • Learners drivers on the NDIS wanting to access specialised driving lessons.
  • Passengers needing wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversations.
  • Drivers needing vehicle modifications ie. hand controls, spinners, left foot acc

Occupational Therapist

Ruth Jardine obtained a Bachelor of Science honors degree in Occupational Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. She worked in National Health Service (NHS) throughout the United Kingdom. She gained expertise in Cardiology, Emergency medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, Stroke, Surgical, Renal, Rheumatology and Respiratory conditions. As well as, two community sites working in supportive discharge, home care assessments, complex seating, manual handling, risk assessments, minor and major home modifications, and neuro-rehab.    

Her extensive experience and medical knowledge enables her to support her patients to reach their goals and potential through Occupational therapy.

In NSW, Ruth has worked as Senior Occupational Therapist and OT Clinical Manager in the community, as well as OT Team Leader and at Newcastle Private Hospital. Ruth has experience with clients and providers across the public and private sectors, My Aged Care, CHSP, STRC, DVA, Insurance providers, and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Ruth holds C and R class licences in South Africa, United Kingdom and New South Wales, and has experience driving in many different countries. Ruth is passionate about keeping our roads and community safe.  She supports young adults in their potential to drive and to obtain their learner’s permit. As well as, experienced drivers to return to driving after a medical event or injury.

Ruth facilitates people to be as independent as possible and live life to the fullest and recognises driving is extremely important in achieving this. 

Occupational Therapist driving assessors have completed post graduate training to assess how medical conditions or injuries may impact your driving ability. Rehab driving instructors have also completed specialist training to instruct and teach drivers with extra  needs. Our staff have extensive experience and knowledge, and work with drivers to obtain, maintain or regain their driving independence.
